5 Small Design Changes That Make Your Home Feel Brand New

Design changes don’t need to feel overwhelming or too much to make a space feel brand new. Sometimes all it takes is a few solid updates to make an entire space feel refreshed and shifted into the new season. Today, I am sharing the details and tricks I use in my own house when I need a little spark. Hint: some of them don’t even include accessories or decor!

  1. Update your framed photos!  My single most favorite way to give a little refresh is swapping out family photos to seasonal ones - my best kept secret that’ll instantly bring new excitement to a space. This time of year, I love swapping in spring time pictures whether it be from the girl’s first birthday photoshoots, dance recital moments, or a family picture captured in the park.

  2. Re-arrange the bookshelf. This is a no brainer but every few months I get the urge to throw everything out and start over. I don’t actually get rid of everything but I make slight adjustments to my decor locations. Something that lived in the family room gets moved to the dining room, while greenery that was in our primary bedroom is now on the coffee table. When I purchase decor pieces I think of two or three locations in my home that I can visualize these items being in. I know its a piece that I’ll have for years to come!

  3. Organize a drawer. This might not be decor inspired but its life and when I clean out the junk drawer on a random Tuesday morning or purge one of the girl’s closet on a Saturday while they are watching TV, it automatically creates a sense of motivation and inspiration. Sometimes it's letting go of something that makes the biggest impact!

Whether it's updating those family moments from a winter snow storm out front to a moment on the softball diamond and putting together a bag of clothes to pass down to my bestie's daughter, it’s subtle shifts and ideas that help give new life to an old space.
