Everything I Loved: September Edition
September always feels like a fresh start to me. The girls went back to school, the calendar filled up again, and our mornings returned to the familiar rhythm of packing lunches, finding shoes, and getting everyone out the door. I love the freedom of summer, but I have to admit: I was ready for a little routine.
That feeling carried into the studio, too. After a summer of working around camp drop-offs, shore trips, and family time, it felt good to settle back into my design groove. I spent time cleaning and reorganizing the office, sorting through samples, clearing the piles that had somehow become permanent, and making room for everything coming next. It wasn’t the most glamorous part of the month, but it was one of the most satisfying.
We also had the pleasure of seeing projects reach the finish line. Those final weeks are always full of details: Checking on deliveries, coordinating the last pieces, and making sure a space feels as good to live in as it looks. With just a few more finishing touches in the coming weeks, another project - and our springtime projects - will finally be wrapped up!
At the same time, new projects are getting started. Kickoffs bring a completely different kind of energy. We get to learn how a family lives, what’s working in their home, what isn’t, and what they’re hoping the space could become. Beyond a few new clients, we are meeting with four past clients who want to work on new spaces in their homes. That’s my absolute favorite part of being a designer: the long-lasting connections I get to make with families.
September reminded me how much I enjoy both sides of this work: bringing one vision to life and beginning to imagine the next. Somewhere between the school routines, the office cleanup, the project wrap-ups, and the new beginnings, I found myself feeling excited to be back in the rhythm of it all.
