From Chaos to Calm

Every year, back to school feels like turning a page — exciting, a little chaotic, and always bittersweet. As a mom, I’m juggling the usual: new shoes, lunchbox ideas, earlier bedtimes… all while trying not to cry over how fast they’re growing.

But as an interior designer, I see this time as more than just a seasonal shift. It’s a chance to set the tone for the months ahead — creating a home that supports our new routine, yes, but also one that feels calm and comforting when the day is done.

That might look like an organized cabinet for homework, a drop zone for backpacks that keeps the entryway from exploding, or simply adding soft textures and warm lighting to ease the post-school crash. I always try to set up strong foundations of routines, organize closets, and clean up spaces so that we at least get off on a fresh start.

Back to school doesn’t have to mean back to stress. With a little planning and a lot of heart, it can be a reset — for our kids and for us too.
