Holding Onto Summer Nights
As July fades and school supply lists start appearing on the fridge, I find myself holding onto summer nights a little tighter. There’s something special about the slower pace of warm evenings as our nights shifted from the field to the backyard and (finally!) the beach house.
As a mom, these are the memories I want to bottle up. The late-night giggles, the spontaneous s’mores, and the freedom that comes with not checking the clock. It’s a reminder to savor the present — because these seasons pass quickly.
As an interior designer, I see the power of creating spaces that embrace those lingering summer moments. Whether it’s a cozy porch swing, string lights over the back patio, or a breezy kitchen nook where late-night chats happen — design can hold space for connection. And that’s what summer is really about.
So even as we say good bye to July and begin to shop for new backpacks, I’m choosing to keep a bit of summer close: in how I design, how I parent, and how I pause to take it all in. Here's to one more month of slower mornings, late nights, and one too many ice pops!
